Bald & Beautiful 5.0 Charity Event

On October 4, 2024, the “Bald & Beautiful 5.0” charity event, organized by My Starfish Foundation and hosted by Powerwell Holdings with support from Pine Cut Hair Studio, was successfully held at Powerwell International.

The event attracted over 160 participants and guests, with 119 individuals taking action to support cancer patients, including 100 men and 19 women. A total of RM201,000.00 was raised, and the fundraising campaign will continue until the end of October to provide ongoing support for cancer patients and their families.

The event officially commenced at 9:30 AM, gathering many guests and participants. Mr. Jason Tham, Managing Director of Powerwell, delivered a welcome speech, expressing gratitude to all guests and supporters for their generous donations and selfless contributions. Subsequently, Mr. Cheng Ping Keat, Chairman of My Starfish Foundation, emphasized that “Bald & Beautiful” is a public awareness campaign aimed at raising awareness about cancer, calling on participants to shave their heads to raise funds for accelerating cancer research and supporting cancer patients and their families. The event highlighted the symbolic act of shaving one’s head, reflecting the courage and determination to fight against cancer. Mr. Patrick Ong, the owner of Pine Cut Hair Studio, and all staff fully supported this event, contributing valuable time and effort to ensure its success.

Dr. Sindhu from the Cancer Research Malaysia delivered an insightful lecture on cancer prevention, sharing important information about cancer knowledge and early prevention. Cancer survivor Puan Selma Enolil and cancer patient Mr. Tan Wai Long also shared their experiences in battling cancer, deeply touching every participant present.

Puan Selma shared that she regularly undergoes check-ups and maintains an active lifestyle, never anticipating that she would be diagnosed with cancer. During her treatment, she felt quite disheartened as her hair fell out. However, when her husband helped her shave her head, she suddenly became positive and decided to face everything bravely, aligning with the spirit of the “Bald & Beautiful” initiative.

Mr. Tan, a cancer patient, continues to work every day and refuses to give up. He noted that the support from his family and colleagues has been crucial in his cancer battle.

During the shaving ceremony, 105 participants bravely shaved their heads to show support for cancer patients. One of the highlights of the day was 20-year-old Lau Jer Chyi, who not only participated in shaving but also donated her long hair. She shared her reasons for participating: “First, I want to show my care and support for cancer patients through this act. Hair loss from chemotherapy is not just a physical change; it’s a psychological challenge as well. I hope to convey courage and strength to them. Secondly, as a member of the new generation, I want to break the societal constraints on beauty standards; being bald can also showcase a woman’s confidence. Most importantly, it’s about being true to oneself.” The event attracted a total of 16 hair donors, reflecting the participants’ love and spirit of giving. It concluded with a group photo and a lunch session. Powerwell Holdings expresses gratitude to all participants, partners, and supporters for their contributions and looks forward to continuing to bring more hope and support to cancer patients in the future.
