Role Summary
The Design Engineer is responsible for producing complete fire suppression system designs—including calculations, engineering drawings, BOM preparation, and technical documentation—based on project requirements and applicable standards. This role ensures that all system designs are technically accurate, compliant, and ready for PE approval.
The ideal candidate has strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to translate customer requirements into fully engineered system proposals.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Design & Engineering Calculations
- Perform full system design for fire suppression systems such as clean agent (HFC-227ea, FK-5-1-12), CO₂, water mist, foam, and pre-action systems.
- Conduct hydraulic flow and pressure calculations to optimize system performance.
- Determine nozzle placement, coverage radius, and system zoning.
- Prepare detailed Bills of Materials (BOM) for all projects ensuring accuracy and completeness.
2. Engineering Drawings & Documentation
- Produce and maintain comprehensive CAD drawings that meet project and company standards.
- Prepare design submissions for consultants and customers according to project specifications.
- Ensure drawing accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards.
- Coordinate with Professional Engineers (PE) for drawing submission and approval.
- Maintain version control and proper documentation for all design files.
3. Project Technical Support
- Collaborate with sales and project teams during pre-award and post-award stages.
- Support tender preparation by contributing technical input and responding to customer inquiries.
- Assist project engineer on technical issues during installation, site layout checks, and final adjustments.
- Revise designs promptly to accommodate changes in site conditions, scope or customer requirements.
4. Standards Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all system designs comply with relevant fire protection standards:
NFPA 2001, NFPA 12, NFPA 750, NFPA 13, local authority requirements, and OEM guidelines. - Validate system performance through calculation tools or manufacturer software.
- Implement best practices for reliability, safety, and compliance.
5. Cross-Department Collaboration
- Coordinate with supply chain to ensure designed components match actual material specifications.
- Support marketing with technical diagrams, system illustrations, and product documentation when required.
- Work closely with PE, consultants, and OEM technical teams for system design validation.
Requirements
- 1–5 years of experience in fire protection design, M&E design, or system engineering (fire suppression experience preferred).
- Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Hands-on experience with CAD software (AutoCAD required; Revit is an advantage).
- Strong understanding of fire suppression concepts, piping design, and hydraulic calculations (training will be provided for specialized agent systems).
- Familiarity with NFPA standards and local authority submission requirements is an advantage.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and good engineering judgment.
- Able to handle multiple design tasks with consistent accuracy and timely delivery.
- Good communication skills for handling consultants, PE, and internal teams.
- A team player with willingness to learn advanced fire protection design tools/software.
